GLI STANDARD

Come gia reso noto questa razza non ha uno standard ben definito o come meglio dire esistono molteplici interpretazioni e standard differenti.
La razza è riconosciuta dalle seguenti associazioni: ABA, ARF, UKC, NKC, NABA, ARBA, JDJB, ABCC, AABC, NKC, CKC, OREBA, APRI, IABC, scusate se ne abbiamo tralasciata qualcuna.
Elencarli tutti potrebbe confondere e risultare pesante per chi legge, anche se in realtà molti sono pressoché identici ed altri variano di poco.
Come è giusto che sia ci limiteremo a proporvi lo standard indicato dal club di razza italiano IABC, presentandovi e linkandovi altri tra i più famosi ed affidabili, naturalmente parliamo di standard per soggetti Bully/Johnson:

Cenni storici:
Il moderno Johnson bulldog deriva dalle antiche stirpi di American bulldog del profondo sud degli USA, utilizzate principalmente per la custodia degli schiavi, modificate ed appesantite dal 1980 in poi rispetto al tipo originario.

Posto nella classica scientifica: Cane di tipo molossoide, brachicefalo, brachimorfo armonico rispetto al formato e disarmonico rispetto ai profili.
Posto nella classificazione utilitaria: Cane da guardia, da traino e da accompagnamento. Ad uso sportivo eccelle nel weight pulle nell'hang-time .
Aspetto generale e carattere:
E' un pesante atleta tozzo e tarchiato, adatto a espletare particolarmente prove di forza pura; da un punto di vista caratteriale manifesta una notevole attitudine come guardiano e predisposizione al lavoro con l'uomo.
Testa brachicefala, si presenta come la parte più importante del corpo. Il muso è corto con una canna nasale di lunghezza variabile dal 25% al 33% della lunghezza totale della testa, assi cranio facciali convergenti o paralleli, stop accentuato fronte larga e piatta; il tartufo puo essere nero o red-nose è leggermente rialzato sul profilo della canna nasale ma assolutamente non rincagnato.
Morso decisamente prognato ma senza esagerazioni (da mm.6 a mm.15); accettabile anche la stretta forbice rovesciata mentre le dentature a livello o ortognata causano la squalifica del soggetto.
Muscoli massetere e temporale enormemente sviluppati, dentatura robusta e completa, tollerabile la mancanza di qualche premolare.
Prognatismo di 20 mm.è considerato difetto grave, oltre i 25 mm. determina la squalifica del soggetto.
Pelle della testa aderente con poche rughe di espressione sulla sommità della fronte sul dorso del naso e ai lati delle guance.
Orecchie piccole o medie, preferibilmente rosa o a bottone.
Occhi rotondi in posizione subfrontale ,costituiscono difetto lieve occhi azzurri o eterocromia.
Collo Corto e tozzo fortissimo, corredato da giogaia non troppo accentuata.
Tronco Brachimorfo pesante e tozzo con torace ampio e profondo; piuttosto raccolto che allungato, linea dorsale diritta o ascendente dal garrese alla groppa non insellata, avampetto di dimensioni eccezionali corredato da muscoli pettorali enormemente sviluppati.
Arti anteriori di grande ossatura e diritti possono sembrare erroneamente arcuati dall'alto in basso e dall'esterno all' interno in soggetti con torace particolarmente sviluppato nel diametro traverso.
Spalle moderatamente angolate corredate da muscoli deltoidi di grande sviluppo trasversale, metacarpi preferibilmente in appiombo ma talora leggermente mancini (in soggetti particolarmente larghi di torace e spalle, un eccessivo mancinismo costituisce difetto), un mancinismo che infici la funzionalità del soggetto costituisce difetto da squalifica; piedi grossi con dita serrate.
Arti posteriori e coda Il treno posteriore pur potente e plastico può sembrare all'apparenza complessivamente più leggero dell'anteriore che è enormemente sviluppato.
Metatarsi e piedi compatti e forti; assenza di speroni. La coda tassativamente integra è moderatamente lunga flessuosa diritta senza nodi a guisa di manico di pompa; code a chiocciola o simili a quelle del bulldog inglese sono da considerarsi difetto da squalifica.
Andatura pur essendo un pesante brachimorfo deve potersi muovere con agilità e flessuosità; al trotto la sua andatura lenta e potente deve ricordare quella del rinoceronte; su brevissime distanze può essere relativamente veloce (scatto felino ).Deve inoltre avere come cane da lavoro una normale resistenza aerobica seppur correlata alla sua massiccia struttura.
Taglia:
Per i maschi: altezza da 55 a 65 cm con peso dai 40 ai 55 kg.
Per le femmine da 50 a 60 cm con peso dai 30 ai 45 kg.
Lunghezza canna nasale da cm.5 a cm.7 
Difetti:
Nella testa: muso più lungo o più corto del consentito ( enognatismo chiusura a livello determinano la squalifica ) orecchie grandi, eccesso di rughe.
Nel collo: collo lungo od esile,debole eccesso di giogaia.
Nel tronco: torace stretto e carenato, tronco allungato o tendente al mesomorfo; zona renale dritta e debole, fianchi stretti; linea dorsale eccessivamente discendente o peggio insellata.
Nell'anteriore: spalle deboli, ossatura leggera, gomiti chiusi con metacarpi rigidi e dritti, ipotrofia muscolare su petto spalle e braccia.
Nel posteriore: angolature insufficienti, carenza di masse muscolari, coda ritorta o a cavaturaccioli.
Nel mantello: colori non ammessi cioè tutto nero, grigio o tricolore (squalifica in tutti e tre i casi), oppure tigrato fulvo monocolore con maschera nera (squalifica).
In entrambe le tipologie le misure intermedie sono da preferire.
Costituiscono difetti da squalifica tutto ciò che impedisce a un american bulldog di poter essere impiegato come cane da lavoro ovvero tutto ciò che ne limiti gravemente la funzionalità.
Cani immotivatamente aggressivi verso le persone e verso i giudici durante il giudizio devono essere squalificati, al pari di soggetti eccessivamente paurosi o eccessivamente timidi; non costituisce difetto una certa diffidenza verso gli estranei nei soggetti di età inferiore ai 18 mesi, non costituisce difetto aggressività verso altri cani in particolare tra soggetti maschi.
In entrambe le tipologie i maschi devono avere entrambi i testicoli ben discesi nello scroto

 

 

Standard ARF:
VARIETIES & RELATED BREEDS: Old Southern Whites, Old-Fashioned Whites, Old English Whites, White English Bulldogs, Georgia Giants, Old-time Bulldogs, and Working Bulldogs.
PURPOSE: Protection, companionship, hunting, working livestock, catching cattle and hogs, etc.
GENERAL APPEARANCE: Being that of a grand and powerful dog showing strength and alertness. Powerfully built, having an amazing endurance.
SIZE: Males should measure between 23 to 26 inches (58 cm. to 66 cm.) at the withers; 1 inch (2.54 cm.) variation in height allowed. Weighing between 90 to 130 pounds (41 kg. to 59 kg.). Plus or minus 5 to 10 pounds (2.2 kg. to 4.5 kg.) is acceptable.
SIZE: Females should measure between 20 to 23 inches (51 cm. to 58 cm.) at the withers; 1 inch (2.54 cm.) variation in height allowed. Weighing between 70 to 120 pounds (32 kg. to 54 kg.). Plus or minus 5 to 10 pounds (2.2 kg. to 4.5 kg.) is acceptable.
HEAD: The face of the dog should indicate intelligence, with discerning alertness. The skull should be square or have a round "melon" look that is well muscled. The "stop" should be deep and abrupt.
MUZZLE: The "muzzle" should be broad, not long and narrow. The length of the "muzzle" should be 1-1/2 to 3 inches (3.81 cm. to 7.62 cm.). The ideal "muzzle" length is 2 to 2-1/2 inches (5.08 cm. to 6.35 cm.). One-half inch (1.27) variation is acceptable.
NOSE: Color of "nose": Black, Gray, or Red.
BITE: 3/8 to 3/4 inch (.95 cm. to 1.90 cm.) "Undershot", depending on size of dog and shape of skull. Plus or minus 1/8 (.31 cm.) inch is acceptable.
EYES: Almond-shaped to round, medium-sized. Color: Brown is the ideal color; however, Blue, Gray and Green eyes will occur.
EARS: "Rose Ears", small-to-medium, carried close to the head.
NECK: Very muscular, almost equal to the skull in size; slightly arched and of moderate length.
BODY: Wide, deep chest, fairly compact. The "loin" is wide, very muscular and slightly arched.
TAIL: Strong at the root and tapering to the hocks (in the rest position). The tail is carried over the back when excited or walking.
COAT: Short and smooth.
COLOR: "Solid White": all shades of "Brindle" (white, red, yellow, blue, brown, black or gray): "Red & White": "Fawn & White": "Beige & White": "Buckskin & White": "Black & White": "Brown & White": "Mahogany & White": "Cream & White".
FOREQUARTERS: The combined front assembly from its uppermost component, the shoulder blades, down to the feet, should be muscular and slightly sloping. The "forelegs" are to be straight.
BONE STRUCTURE: Medium-to-heavy, to be able to carry a large dog.
HINDQUARTERS: Broad with muscles tapering well down the leg to manifest speed and strength, but not quite as large as at the shoulders. 
FAULTS:

NECK: Too short, thick, thin, or weak
BACK: Too narrow, swayed, or excessively long
FOREQUARTERS: Elbows turned outward, front legs bowed, wrists knuckled over, toeing in or out
HINDQUARTERS: Narrow or weak, straight or over angulated knee [stifle]
LEGS: Bow-legged, cow-hocked, weak pasterns
FEET: Splayfoot [crooked toes]
TAIL: Corkscrew, crooked [kinked], curled over the back

Standard John D. Johnson
GENERAL APPEARANCE:
Being that of a great powerful dog showing strength, endurance and alertness. Powerfully built, but active.
SIZE & WEIGHT:
Males to be 23 - 28" at withers. Weight. 90 - 150 lbs. (Slightly larger or smaller is not a fault). Females to be 20 - 26" at withers. Weight. 70 - 130 lbs. (Slightly larger or smaller is not a fault).
HEAD:
Expression: intelligent with keen alertness. The head should be square or have a round basketball look, and well muscled. The "STOP" should be deep and abrupt.
MUZZLE:
Should be broad, not long and narrow. Length of "MUZZLE": Not less than 1 inch to not
more than 3 inches. (Preferred length: 2 to 2 1/2 inches).
BITE:
At least 1/4 to 1 inch (Undershot) depending on size of dog and shape of head.
EYES:
Almond-shaped to round, medium-sized: Normal Color. brown. Acceptable Colors: gray, green or light blue eye(s).
EARS:
Small to medium, carried close to the head, or rose ears.
NECK:
Slightly arched of moderate length. Very muscular - almost equal to the head in size.

BODY:
Fairly compact with wide deep chest. The loin is wide, muscular and slightly arched.

TAIL:
Strong at the root and tapering to the hocks (normal relaxed position; however, many will carry their tails over their backs, especially when excited or walking).
COAT:
Short and soft.
COLOR:
Solid white only.- all shades of brindle (white, red, yellow, blue, brown, black or gray); red and white; fawn and white; beige and white; buckskin and white; black and white; brown and white; mahogany and white; cream and white.
FOREQUARTERS:
The combined front assembly from its uppermost components, the shoulder blades, down to the feet should be muscular and slightly sloping. The "Forelegs" are to be straight. Bone structure: medium to heavy - to be able to carry a large dog.

Full black mask; cow-hocked; splayfooted; even and scissor bite; glass eye(s); docked tail (can be registered, but will be prohibited from the "Show Ring").
